The series of photos is a portrait of my cousin Amy. Amy, a darling 9 year old, has a bizarre quirk. She’s obsessive-compulsive about her breakfast. When she eats her breakfast, which can only be Total Raisin Bran, she has to count and measure out her flakes (exactly 306 flakes organized into 9 columns spanning 8 inches then running 34 rows), her raisins (exactly 132 raisins organized into 11 columns spanning 8 inches then running 12 rows), and milk (exactly one cup’s worth of skim milk). But what makes the whole situation truly interesting is the way she copes with this regimented practice. She has a figure called Mr. Asparagus whom she believes has control over her breakfast routine and it is through his will that her obsessive-compulsive behavior exists.
